After five years, Alison realised that her marriage was in trouble. To fund yet another of his business ventures, her husband, Alec, had pawned her most treasured possession - a gold bracelet she had inherited from her grandmother - and then he had disappeared. When Alison turns to the parents of her best friend, Judy, for comfort, they tell her that Alec has been killed. Alison then tries to get in touch with Judy - but why is she always unavailable?
