**THE SHATTERED DREAM: It was all wrong, the sour old woman, the vicious little girl, the decaying house.** Jean Evans saw her dreams crumbling as she stood before them, shocked by the nastiness that they displayed. **''I gave Amos Fitch a ride to town, Aunt Carrie,''** she said. The woman was immediately up on the edge of her chair. ''Did he say anything?'' she demanded. Jean paused deliberately. **''Well, out with it, girl! What did he say?'' ''Nothing specific---but he hinted that something was wrong. That you are in some sort of trouble.''** Aunt Carrie sighted and settled back into her seat. ''Hinting isn't sufficient---he needs evidence. Which he hasn't got.'' **Jean stared at her in disbelief. What sort of terrible welcome was this? Was the old man right in his accusations?**
