Terms of service
Last updated: 2026-05-20
These Terms govern your use of Steamy Shelf, a romance book discovery and reading-tracking service operated by 17816600 Canada Inc., a Canadian corporation (“Steamy Shelf,” “we,” “us,” “our”). By creating an account or using the service you agree to these Terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use Steamy Shelf. Our catalog includes adult content. By creating an account you represent that you are an adult in your jurisdiction and that your use of the service is lawful where you live.
2. Your account
You are responsible for safeguarding the credentials to your account and for any activity that occurs under it. Use a unique password. Notify us promptly at support@steamyshelf.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
One account per person. Do not impersonate other users, brands, or public figures. You may not transfer or sell your account.
3. Your content
“Your Content” means anything you post or upload on Steamy Shelf: shelves, ratings, reviews, comments, lists, club picks, book club discussions, and similar contributions.
You own Your Content. You grant Steamy Shelf a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, and distribute Your Content on the service and in reasonable marketing of the service, for as long as you keep it on the platform. The license terminates when you delete the content, except for backup copies and content that other users have already interacted with in ways that make removal impractical (e.g. a quote in another user's public review).
You represent that you own Your Content or have all necessary rights to grant this license, and that Your Content does not infringe anyone's rights or violate any law.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, defame, or intimidate any person.
- Post sexual content involving minors, non-consensual content as endorsement, or content that incites violence.
- Post spam, repetitive solicitations, or commercial promotions.
- Reveal another person's private information without consent.
- Post unmarked spoilers. Use the spoiler control on reviews and comments when your content reveals major plot points.
- Scrape, crawl, or mass-extract content from the service except as expressly permitted by us in writing.
- Reverse-engineer or attempt to access the underlying database or other users' private data.
- Use the service to develop a competing product.
- Circumvent rate limits or other technical protections.
- Engage in any unlawful activity.
5. Moderation, reports, and enforcement
We may remove content, restrict features, suspend an account, or terminate an account if we determine, in our reasonable discretion, that these Terms have been violated. We may act on reports we receive, on our own observations, or in response to legal process.
You can report comments and other user-generated content via the in-product Report control. Admin moderators review reports and act when appropriate. Admin decisions are final at the platform level, though you may seek legal remedies available to you.
6. Affiliate links and recommendations
Steamy Shelf surfaces retailer links that may be affiliate links (Amazon, Bookshop.org, Libro.fm, and others). When you purchase through an affiliate link we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. We disclose this relationship here and you should not consider an affiliate link an endorsement beyond the recommendation itself. We do not warrant pricing, availability, or inventory at any retailer.
7. Catalog content
Book metadata (titles, authors, descriptions, covers, ISBNs, publication data) comes from public sources including Open Library and from contributions by our community. We do our best to surface accurate information but make no warranties about it. If you are an author or rights-holder and want to correct something on a work page, contact us at support@steamyshelf.com.
Trope tags, content warnings, and heat ratings are a combination of editorial classification, community voting, and AI-assisted suggestion. None of them are warranties about a book's contents; check the source material if accuracy matters to you.
8. Intellectual property
The Steamy Shelf name, the wordmark, the visual design system, the software, and the curated taxonomy are our property or used under license. You may not copy, modify, or distribute them without permission, except as allowed by law.
All other content remains the property of its respective owners.
9. Copyright and DMCA notices
If you believe content on Steamy Shelf infringes your copyright, send a notice to dmca@steamyshelf.com including:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the copyrighted work you claim is infringed.
- Identification of the material on Steamy Shelf you claim is infringing, with enough detail to locate it (URL is sufficient).
- Your contact information (address, phone, email).
- A statement that you have a good faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
We will respond to valid notices and may remove material accordingly. We may also accept counter-notices in line with 17 U.S.C. § 512. Our designated DMCA agent is registered with the United States Copyright Office under registration number DMCA-1071086.
10. Termination
You may delete your account at any time from the profile screen. We may terminate or suspend your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if continuing to provide the service to you becomes impractical. Sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, dispute resolution) survive termination.
11. Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Steamy Shelf is not a substitute for professional advice and does not warrant that any book recommendation will suit you. Recommendations are software-driven and informational.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Steamy Shelf and our officers, directors, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible loss, arising out of or related to your use of the service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim or USD 50.
13. Indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Steamy Shelf from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You and Steamy Shelf agree to bring any claim arising out of or related to these Terms in the courts located in Ontario, Canada, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
Nothing in this section limits a consumer's rights under mandatory consumer protection laws of their place of residence.
15. Changes
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be announced in-app or via email. Continued use of the service after a change becomes effective constitutes acceptance. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the current version took effect.
16. Miscellaneous
These Terms, together with our privacy policy and our 18+ content policy, are the entire agreement between you and Steamy Shelf regarding the service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a right is not a waiver of that right. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a corporate transaction.
